Adriana Marina was born in Patagonia, and after studying development economics, she founded Animana. This is a brand with a social and ecological conscience. Animana’s principle is to produce high quality, environmentally friendly items, using only natural fibres, such as llama, alpaca, guanaco and vicuna wool, all sourced from animals from the Andean Highlands. All their creations (shawls, covers, accessories) are produced from the fleeces of animals raised in the open countryside. Next, the local craftsmen, based at the company’s workshop, using their experience transform the fleeces. The fibres are spun and dyed using natural pigments from native plants. Each piece is woven in the Andean tradition resulting in items that combine tradition and modernity in their design.
Participating country: Patagonia, in the far south of Argentina. The Andes.
A little extra information: Animana has received rewards for it’s work from organisations such as BiDNetwork, Ashoka, Hecho x Nosotros, Ethical Fashion Forum (London), Ethical Fashion Show (Paris), amongst others, and is supported by the Onusienne Global Compact agency for it’s ethical and fair trade business.
