Mira Ambre is a young Englishwoman who decided three years ago to launch a brand of beauty products which would be 100% environmentally friendly, and which would not use dyes, water or chemicals. Carrot and mango hand cream, body oil, body scrub with garden herbs, walnut oil body cream, all these products are made by hand in her small studio in Islington, north London. To obtain these natural products and to retain the power of their essential properties, Mira uses the process of cold-pressing the plants to extract their oils, rich in nutrients.
Participating country: England
A little extra information: Ambre won the 2013 prize from the Green Parent Association. She is also supported by 1618 Substainble Luxury brands.
A couple of questions for Mira Ambre, the founder of Ambre Botanicals
Three verbs to define your brand.
To understand, to create, to share.
How can your products be defined as sustainable, or ethical?
Where possible, we try to source local, European grown ingredients. We only work with suppliers ( for ingredients and packaging) that have a solid sustainability policy in place; we avoid using non-sustainable ingredients of controversial origin. Our manufacturing method boasts low energy consumption and produces zero waste. We use glass and recycled paper stock for our packaging, which is 100% recyclable. Other packaging materials we use for bulk orders are widely recyclable.
What is the latest accomplishment you are proud of?
I am proud that I was able to bring my ideas to life and make my personal vision of a high quality, innovative and honest skincare product a reality in the form of AMBRE. Starting from scratch enabled me to do something different and being a small producer means never having to compromise on the concept or execution of the product. It wasn’t the easiest route to take, but developing a loyal customer base for my products which are increasing in popularity around the world makes it worth it. I am very proud of what I have achieved with AMBRE to this day.
